A firefighting plane filled its tanks with water from a lake, sucking a scuba-diver in. He drowned while the plane was in flight and was dumped onto a burning forest with the water.

Maybe he drowned on his own vomit in the desert. A dead forest is no longer a forest.

He was swimming in a nearby lake. There was a forest fire and a helicopter scooped huge amount of water from the lake, scooping him up with it. He must have drowned in the air and was dropped down into the forest with the rest of the water when they were trying to douse the fire.

As already mentioned, he could have drowned on his own vomit. But we then also need to take into consideration that he could have drowned on his own blood filling his lungs after being attacked by an animal. Not sure how many others ways there are to drown other than to drown your sorrows and the already mentioned.
