Are you teaching a child to spell and/or to count?
Try this for a bit of fun!
Take one of the suits out of a pack of cards (all 13 cards). Sort the cards into the following order; 5 9 10 J Q 2 4 6 K A 7 8 3. Now holding these cards face down with the 5 at the bottom and the 3 on top you start to count as follows; Transfer the top card to the bottom of the pile and say 'O' out loud. Send the new top card to the bottom and say 'N', then the same again and say 'E'. Turn the now top card over and place it face up on the table. It will be the ACE which represents ONE.
Carry on counting out TWO, THREE, FOUR...each time placing the top card to the bottom until there are no cards left in your hand, remember that the JACK is a 'KNAVE'. If you want to stop at TEN then just turn the 3 remaining cards over. They should have come into their order of seniority.
If you make a mistake you are not spelling correctly.
This is not a card trick, it's a play with numbers. You need not use cards, you can take 10 pieces of paper and write 1 to 10 on them but cards are simply easier and the child can count the hearts or diamonds on each card which is easy.

Nothing l hate more than card tricks. Sorry Big G....your question was more interesting that your details . I wish people would teach their children more...and,.. l could count and write my name at 4 yrs old...and teachers expected this at 5 yrs old when you went to school. Sorry..not getting into your card trick..just answering your question. Parents blame teachers for not teahing their kids how to read or write..but it is the parents fault for not exibiting that they can perform these simple skills.
