Resolved Question

Do you suffer from almost constant heartburn/indigestion?

I am considering giving up all starch as this seems to be the culprit, have you suffered from it before, do you think that Base Power will help?

Yes Pikkiewyn I think its time to stop putting off that visit to the Dr for us!! your waking up with fluid doesnt sound pleasant at all.. I can even feel my indigestion in my ears sometimes.

Used to get bad from breads and wheat products. Just looking at a pie gave me heartburn. Then I discovered Ultak - 300 (R25 for 10) or Hestak 300 (R13.40 for 10.) Once a day now I enjoy a pepper steak or curry mutton pie again. Worked for me.

I have heard Base Powder does help, it didn't help my husband though. He eventually had surgery & hardly ever gets heartburn now. If you don't want to do that, try to change your diet, a dietitian will be able to advise you on what foods to avoid, also consider a homeopath. My husband doesn't believe in all that so he opted for the surgery.

I do know what ur talking about. For me its more like winds that are stuck...it feels like heartburn but mostly its wind...it hurts like hell. I carry a big jar of enos and it takes about only 5 mins after a meal for this to start. Enos really helps and gaviscon. In me it is caused by soda's, spicy food, and mayonaise even. This could be symptoms of spastic colon...we should actually go see a doc. Last year the doc told me it was to do with my gall. Sometimes I wake up at night with stomach fluid in my mouth and nose. It burns....but luckily its not fluid all the time like I said.

From time to time yes. I avoid yeast products as much as possible, but fat is also a big culprit. It also doesn’t help much if you’re overweight or obese.

My husband used to get heartburn constantly. Try not to eat tomatoe, vinegar, chillies, fat (eg. fat around steak) as this will help a lot. I have found that fried foods and take aways for eg. KFC is one of the big culprits.

My Dad has it - stay away from red meat, spicy foods etc. Don't eat too late at night and try sleeping in a upwards angle, add more pillows or put bricks under your bed (head side) this seems to work well for him. Also be careful of some medication such as painkillers as this can make things worse. My Dad battled at first but with a few years of learning what he can and cannot do, he is doing fine.

I would follow Easy's advice. You could be allergic to wheat, but sometimes the fat in for example pies, also sets you off. Something that has helped me with digestion (I couldn't eat wheat, any type of fat, even bananas and a lot of other things) is something called Acidophilus -- can get it from any health store - it restores (mine says) 2 billion GOOD lactic bacteria to the digestive system. Since taking it, I have never had problems again and can now eat things I hadn't been able to eat for years.

I know someone who has this. Doesn't seem to be related to anything in particular that he eats or drinks - more stress-related.

I had it constantly and at the end it was a 'peptic ulcer' (maagseer) and as soon as the specialist started to treat it the heartburn went 'poef'. I only get it now from time to time. So, my suggestion is to go and see ur dr.

I have narrowed down all the foods. Here is a guideline, stay away from wheat, al fruit and veg with loads of vitamin C. Coke. Fatty red meat. If you are overweight loosing just a few kilos can work. You have something like a non return valve in your stomach the acid being right on top escapes first when lying down or when overweight the bellyfat gets in the way of this non return or goitervalves opperation.
