Undecided Question

If I have male dogs that fight all the time, will it stop if I have one of them neutered?

We saved an Alsation, put ads up at all the shopping centers & vets in the area we picked him up. Gave his detail & photo to SPCA but nobody even phoned. The Alsation is extremely well behaved and now that I'm alone on the farm during the day, it feels quite secure with him sleeping under my desk and driving around with me. THE PROBLEM: I have a male Boerboel who doesn't like another male dog on his turf. I thought of keeping the Alsation and then neutering one of them. I don't know how to pick that either, but don't want to do that unless it will solve the problem. 24 mths ago - -56 min left to vote.

Neutering a male dog might help, but you must remember that some breeds tend to be alpha male leaders of a pack no matter what, neutered or not. Keep an eye on them and try to find out which dog has the leader gene in him and then neuter the less dominant ones. He will most probably stop trying to lure the alpha male out to a match for dominance. In this case, neuter the Alsation. A Boerboel unfortunately is very dominant and won't tolerate another male dog very easily as you say. Rather keep trying in finding the Alsation a home. Boerboel dogs are bred for protecting their families and their borders and like they say, you can't teach an "old" dog new "tricks". Good luck!

I think you should ask your vet, neutering doesn't always help....

No! The one will not know the other one is neutered. They want all the territory for themselves just like Malema!

Nope it does not always help.

BOTH dogs are territorial animals - the best is to talk to your vet about this

My earnest suggestion is that you spend money and take them to an Animal Behaviourist. Neutering them at this stage in their life is not the answer. They have to learn to get along with one another. It is amazing what these AB see in an instant, and help you to clear up. Good luck. Not a pleasant situation.

Nope , its their nature to fight, there can only be one top dog.

Tend to agree with Alicia on the Animal Behaviourist ....who will have ways and means of treating the dogs and tips for you to know how to 'think like a dog' l have seen dog behaviour turn around completely with the correct advice and training of both owner and dogs. It may take just one day or it may take a week or so...but worth it if you are getting on so well the the Alsation. Good Luck.
