Is liquorice very fattening?

I'm on diet and well behaved but have a daily ritual of 2 sticks of liquorice with the pink stuff in the middle - like an allsort. Am I doing damage to my gym-time I'm investing?? 71 mths ago

The liquorice side won't give too much of weight increase, but the pink stuff in the middle is packed with sugar - rather have plain liquorice.

Liquarice is very good for boosting blood pressure, ask any doctor he will recommend it. It also helps with constipation. But too much of a good thing...

it's not fattening, however it is pretty high in sugar, which can be fattening if it's not burned off.

Black liqourice is pretty high in calories, about 100 per 28 grams. So a 50 gram packet of pure liqourice would put back most of the energy spent on a 20 minute run. Two sticks doesn't sound like much and it's probably good for you psychologically to have that break. Point is though, if you're using sweetener or avoiding sugar in other places then you're probably undoing those efforts. Or maybe, you're making allowance for your liquorice habit by reducing sugar consumption elsewhere. :)

Agree on the point that it's good for your blood pressure - however, that gooey pink stuff in the middle is nothing but sugar. But all in all, its a better bet than a whole slab of Lindt!
