Is your Christmas tree from the forest or has it been artificially made?
Why do I ask...well I remember earlier days when one could buy them on the side of the road like some of us do our braai wood these days. I no longer live where pine trees grow but wonder if they still sell them. A pine tree in your house made Xmas feel a bit more real and gave your home a Xmas smell...and the cotton wool stuck to the pine needles without any fuss. You could also collect a box of pine cones and spray paint them gold, silver, green or white. Tree, cones, lights, angels, stars, coloured bells, balls and bricks and a few empty cigarette packets wrapped in Xmas wrap cost less than R50 and that was not so long ago. A pleasant hassle was trying to get the tree to stand in a big bucket of bricks and sand and to stay upright. Am I getting carried away? Yes!! Please give us some of your best old Christmas memories and Cheer!
Moannet...now that you have rushed to the top of the main GURU ratings can't you risk trying to be a bit more interesting?

The six real trees that we had when l was a child were planted in the garden after Xmas. Such a shame to see them lying around dead by the bins afterwards. Strange how we plant trees for a greener life and then millions are hacked down at Zmas time. There are specific Xmas tree forests in UK and they assure me it is an ongoing concern..and people can go and choose and chop their own trees....but l still hate to see the trees thrown out after Xmas.
I do not buy them for that reason.Sometimes l 'borrow' some traffic cones from the street and cover them in shiny paper and then wrap tinsel around them and a string of lights..everyone admires my trees, and after Xmas they go back to the street..thank you council.! Sometimes l will spray dead branches and wrap tight around them and hang tiny shiny parcels on them...another time l made a tree from 10 wire coathangers....just love trying different things. Not sure what this years tree will be made out of..but l am eyeing the huge holly bush in the neigbours garden and all the ivy growing on the wall.. and muddling around with ideas.

I have an artificial tree.......much easier than a forest Christmas tree caring for it through the year !

Artificial and I can re-use it the following X-mas.

Mine must be from a forest. And the forest it's from, has been de-forested and my tree is one of the trees which have been removed from the forest, as I don't have a Christmas tree. Not because I don't like it, because I don't have space!

We use a normal plant which is quite large... and just put lights around it... that's the extent of our christmas tree...

I do not have one, and will not be putting one up.

In my days as a forester I used to go out and cut a real tree every year. My kids were young then and I think it was more fun for them. These days we're on to the plastic, at least you can use it year after year!
