Please help: What is the equivalent of "A Levels" (UK) in South Africa and where can we enroll or find out info?

My son needs to complete our equivalent of A Levels here in SA, who offers this course in Johannesburg? Please provide info if possible. Thank you 52 mths ago

O level is equal to our matric. A-level is comparable to a first year level at university. Private schools in South Africa that offer the Cambridge Education System will offer A-levels.

You will have to find out from your chosen lists of schools what they are offering. Yes our matric, as someone already said, is O-level. I know a lot of schools, even when I was in high schools, offer Cambridge education in certain subjects, this being private as public schools. But each school is different, and it also differs year to year as to what they offer. Call around to schools in your area, if they dont offer it, they will refer you to those who do

I was always under the impression that O levels = grade 10 and A levels is a matric - looking at the other answer - i dunno anymore

I think Spongebob has your answer but please check. As to who offers this tuition and examination?? No idea. Perhaps try to get hold of the Cambridge University examinations body.

There is a difference between A levels and Matric. I did matric as well as A levels. In Johannesburg there is a British College(Bryanston are I think) where they do A levels. I did mine at St Johns College in Johannesburg which is part of the Camridge University. In the UK it is normally a 2 year course but if you have done Matric then it is 1 year.

SpongeBob is spot on. My daughter did her A levels at a private school, the British Cambridge system. My son, sadly, did not inherit the same academic brains, and is doing a straight IEB matric, in my opinion one step higher than the old model C schools matric.
