Moannet, get yourself some Bactroban ointment to prevent a bacterial infection of the bite site. So far I've escaped being bitten by a spider but have had many other equally nasty bites, stings, penetrating wounds!! If it's any consolation, you won't die from a bite from any indigenous SA spider though some bites can be very nasty. Vasbyt (excuse the pun!) and I hope it all clears up soon.

I was bitten by a Recluse spider about two month's ago. Had a pimple like thing at the bottom of my buttock. It itched a lot. I couldn't sit. Became inflamed within hours and the pain was unbearable. Was red, the size of a golf ball and very hot to the touch. I had a mild fever. Within two days, the "boil" did not open up to drain, so I put a hot water bottle on the spot. Within hours it opened up and started to form this puss like hole. Antibiotics and lots of Dettol baths later, and a few days that is, the thing finally drained and left a black mark on my behind.

I have heard terrible stories about these tiny spiders. I know there are harmless ones too, but Ben especially, destroys anything that jumps...spiders that is. Ek is die Here so dankbaar dat jy nou beter is. Jy kon dood gewees het. Kyk net na hierdie fotos. Hou die wond goed dop asb. http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/arachnids/spiders/salticidae/

I started feeling woozy while I was driving and had to pull over. When I got home I also had a cold fever and my kidneys felt like they were going to explode. I was in agony for about half an hour until my mother got there and gave me an injection for the pain. I thought it was kidney stones but I was only twenty. I only realised that night that a spider bit me on my back. Kakiebos vrek nie maklik nie:)

Sorry to hear that Moannet. Hope you get better soon. There was a huuuuge brown, furry spider - span of about 6 inches (I swear this is not a fishing story) and I battled to get it out the window. I had to put a large bowl over it (it was that big) and slip some cardboard under it it --- thankfully I got it out the window with a bit of screaming thrown in. There seem to be more creepy crawlies around than they used to be. Get well soon!

My vrou hou van tuinwerk en daardeur is sy al deur 'n sak spinnekop en 'n viool spinnekop gebyt. Dit was nie grappies nie en albei kere was sy hondsiek.

Yes, when I was sleeping in the bush, I was attacked by one of those big black and yellow jobbies. They like to go for your eyes. Couldn't see for 2 days because my eyes were so swollen. Hope that you feel better soon. If I see a spider or dingus in my house, maak ek hom fokken dood. Hy moet maar op 'n ander plek gaan boer.

Yes. We lived in a complex that had a bad spider and cockroach infestation... I was bitten in my sleep. I felt fine, actually. My arm started to go red and rashy until it looked like the arm of a burn victim- red, raw and blistery (this took place over a couple of days). I knew it was a spider because I saw the bite marks before the site started to go bonkers. I have NO idea what spider it was though. Nothing a course of anit biotics couldn't fix.
