Resolved Question

What can I (or can't I) take in my hand luggage on an International Flight these days?

I want to take my iPod and my electronic cigarette in my hand luggage, are these items allowed? I don't want to get to check in and they be confiscated (who the hell knows whats allowed these days and whats not) 53 mths ago

Guns, drugs, knives, screw drivers, lighters flamable liquids, bombs etc all will earn you soem free accomodtion :-> Your stuff will be ok. But beware if you take anything in a can that uses propellants like lighter fuel spray on oil etc as these can be used as a weapon together with a lighter as seen in movies.

You can take those onboard with you. The only things they have a problem with is any liquids more than 100ml, any sharp objects like scissors and knives.

ipod totally okay. never tried to bring a electronic cigarette onboard but it should be okay if not sharp or 'flammable'. They might not notice it. I got away with tweezers last time. some airports do confiscate cigarette lighters sometimes. (stupid as you can probably buy them again in duty free) 100ml liquid bottles all have to fit into a 1ltr bag that can still seal, this includes toothpaste and creams. aerosol deodrant is okay

Remember that nothing sharp like a small scissors can be taken be taken on board. Lighters are not a problem unlesss you are travelling into Africa where they make a mint out of confiscating your lighters and selling them back onto the streets. No problem with your iPod and your electronic cigarette - nothing there that is sharp or dangerous.

For self-defence - no knifes or swords - only forks... Yes, no liquor - only 100ml of liquid though - for people who got chronic meds to take - it's okay. You may have your cellphone & laptop, though there're stages it needs to be switched off... Ask your "lugredery" about the sizes of hand luggage..

Not sure about the electronic cigarette... Though I dont see why not, however your might want to check if they allow for it to be smoked on the plane even if it is allowed to be in the hand luggage. But your iPod is fine, you'll just have to keep it off on take off and landing. Nothing sharp is allowed, that includes nail files and tweezers. Bottles over 50ml... And that really means tiny little bottles, Someone I know tried bringing through an almost empty lotion bottle (one of those big ones) and that got confiscated...

As said above, no liquids over 100ml, and they have to be in a clear plastic bag. E-ciggie depends on the airline if you can smoke it on the flight or not, but they wont know if you do it in the toilet. Interestingly, iPods are not allowed to be used during flight on South African carriers. So if you're flying SAA, make sure.
