What is the fastest way to get an unabridged birth certificate and what will it cost?
I have e-mailed a service called "Que Stop" and they will charge R 760 (ex delivery) for a claimed 4 weeks delivery time. The Dept of Home Affairs quote anything between 8-24 weeks!

I recently had to request a few unabridged birth certificates for my ex. It did not cost me R760 but did take 3 to 4 weeks to get them in a less than usual route. Unfortunately, without the route that I used it could have taken up to nine months as they are very slow and so I was forced to contact a friend of mine in the immigration industry whose messengaer "had a contact" who "assisted" the process for a "R200 tip". So, go with "Que Stop" or shop around, if in Johannesburg I have heard that "Don't Q" is also good.

I would go the "Que Stop" route. I don't think there is a faster way. The 8 to 24 weeks that Home Affairs stated is highly improbable. It's more like 8 - 24 years.

I applied for unabridged birth certificates for both my husband and me at home affairs a few months ago, and I think it cost about R50 a piece, if that much. So where they come from charging R760 I don't know. It does however take about 8 weeks to 3 months to get it with the FANTASTIC public service we have in our government offices.

That's nothing. I also need one and seeing that they can't find mine cause the building that had all the records when I was born, burnt down in 1972, I have to re-apply for one and that can take up to one year. AND I have to pay something like R1000 AND, AND, AND....sigh
