Well, we are in pretty good company - check all these unfinished bridges and roads out from around the world. Also, don't forget that the opening scenes of the latest tv series 24 with Keifer Sutherland was filmed there as well. http://www.interbent.com/roads-to-nowhere-abandoned-ruined-and-unfinished-bridges/

Ok, so when the contract came up to build the bridge that connected onto the M3, they started building it (and obviously with bridges they strat on either side and connect in the middle). When they got to a certain point, it came out that the land they were building "over" is protected, or belongs to someone that never signed the rights to build there (something like that). The contractor who passed the whole project didn't bother checking this before giving the thumbs up for the whole job, so he was to blame. He killed himself. (I might have left out some details or facts, but it goes along those lines).

I don't know how it happened but it certainly is being used by advertising agents in their ads and, if I'm now wrong, they also erected that huge Vuvuzela on it. So, at least, it is of some value. The Bridge to Nowhere...

The bridge is living proof that our officials have no clue of what they are doing. Surely some form of 'plan' must be given to the authoroties for aproval before you start building a bridge (normally they have endless meetings and spend millions on enviromental studies before anything get aproved), how is it possible that they can get this far before realising that they have not look at all aspects? Just another way to waste our tax payers money!!

In the 1960's the building of the bridge was halted due to a lack of funds. I guess by the time they saved enough they decided to build the V&A instead. I also know that it is the roof of a fine bergie dwelling. And there have been thousands of suggestions as to what should be done with it. My favourite is still ... a massive hall for dancing. The view is divine. This bridge and the horrible three moles against the mountain....what folly.

I think Penny may be referring to the First for Women advertisement, don't recall seeing Kiefer Sutherland there though, but then again she is asthmatic. Anyway she raises a valid point

I think kangoo is right, something to do with wrong calculations that was discovered too late, and the project was abandoned.
