Resolved Question

Why do old injuries hurt again when it is cold?

I sprained my ankle very badly a couple of months ago. It felt better for a while, but now that it is cold the ankle is throbbing again. Why?

I am very far from old. Most probably younger than you. Assumption makes an ass out of u.

Yes it would hurt. Joints-ankles, knees, elbow and wrists- are most affected!! The tissue that was damaged causes this, there is a medical definition and explanation, but I am not a doctor, so I'm not going to be able to help with that!! For 4 years now I have had that same pain in my ankles after cracking the one and torn ligaments 4 times!! So it will take a while to go away, this is year 5 and I have already started to feel the pain again this year!!

Because you are an old woman and shouldn't have been walking without your walking stick in the first place.

i know what you mean, when i broke both my arms, the 3 winters that followed were painful, but it got better with time, keep deep heat/rub nearby

Its not only injuries, my c-section scar throbs when its cold

Because of the scar tissue ie muscles, tendons around the bone. Lots of massage & exercise helps.

There is certainly no need for rudeness on AI! I have no idea why old wounds hurt when it's cold - my gastroenterostomy scar itched whenever rain was on its way and this went on for about 20 years!! According to some of my friends it's mainly bone wounds that carry on hurting (or, at least, being uncomfortable) for some years but rest assured, it all goes away eventually!

Im not sure exactly how it works, but i know if u keep it warm it will be all better, I think scar tissue gets hard when its cold and therefore makes movement difficult

Goodness me. From under what rock did Thespian crawl?? To answer your Q, I think the tissue (bone and all other) around and near the injury gets damaged and it takes a long time to heal -- in serious injuries, it can never heal and can cause pain with the cold for life.
