Resolved Question

can a dead bee still "sting" ?

everyday there are a few dead bees floating in my pool - I lift the live ones out quite fearlessly, but am wary of the drowned ones because they stick to my hands and I'm scared their stings might still be poisonous......?? 63 mths ago

Best Answer

They would probably be able to sting an animal if they were eaten. I am not sure, but l think it might be possible if you were to crush them in your hand. I would use an implement like a colander..or any strainer drainer thing where the water can drain away and the live ones can dry off and the dead ones can be chucked out later.

If they have been dead for how long? Because after a while their poison might not be effective anymore. And when do they start to decompose?

If there is still a stinger - yes. Beee-atches.

Yes, they definetly are still very poisonous. My dad was extremely allergic to bees, and he stepped on a dead one, within minutes we had to rush him to hospital. I have also heard that older bees are more poisonous when they sting you, whether alive or dead...
